Hi,

]project-open[ is a project management application based on OpenACS. We've just started the beta process for ]project-open[ V3.3. The final release is scheduled for July 22nd, 2008.

We'd invite everybody to download and check the new version. The "beta" refers to very minor issues that might occur during the installation process, which are probably "no issue" for OpenACS members.

For download please see:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/project-open/
and go to Download. The installer is called project-open-v33.beta1.zip .

For a complete change log please see:
http://www.project-open.org/download/change_log.html

Please nominate us for the SourceForge "Community Choice Award":
http://sourceforge.net/projects/project-open/
and click on the "Nominate" button.

Key features of the new installer / version:

- V3.3 is our new "stable release". We will only introduce bug fixes in this version now.
- At the same time, we have started an instable/development version V3.4, which is also available now.
- The ]po[ "installer" now consists of a CentOS 5.1 VMware appliance with everything installed and ready for production use.
- The VMware includes PostgreSQL 8.1, AOLServer 3.3oacs (yep!, without memory leaks AFAIK...) and OpenACS 5.1
- It is now possible to install ]po[ V3.4 on top of an existing OpenACS/dotLrn 5.1 ... 5.4 installation. Three of our customers are running such configurations now.

Some Statistics about ]po[:

]po[ is one of the most successful "products" that are based on OpenACS, so our success is also an OpenACS success, and many of our customers have become members of OpenACS.

- There are some 2.500 companies in the world running their business using ]project-open[
- The last version of ]po[ received some 50.000 product downloads at SourceForge (~2.5TB download volume per month...)
- We usually get some 50.000 distinct visitors each month on our web site.

Cheers!
Frank

    Hey Frank,

Nice to see you here. I can see you managed to register and login. That's much better than I first tought! We're still working in making the registration process easier to english speaker people.

If you want to we can put ]project-open[ somewhere here in the community so other people can download. Maybe we can also help in Portuguese translation somehow.

I'm going to try to translate your posts in Portuguese so other people who don't know english can participate in the discussion.

    Welcome to our community. Cheers.

      Hi Eduardo,

Well, yes, we're located in Barcelona, Spain, so with some "Portignol" it's not too difficult to get through. The question is what non-Portuguese speaking users would want in a Portugues/Brazilian speaking community. Not much I guess, except for posting news like this one...

      > put ]project-open[ somewhere here in the community

The binary is 1.2GByte(!) in size. I'm not sure whether you want to host this on this site here... SourceForge does very well with their mirror network, and it's the place where we need to concentrate communication.

However, we've got > 100 companies in Brazil using ]po[, it's one of our biggest "markets", so it would be great if you could list ]po[ somewhere on your site. Also, most of the ]po[ support issues are really OpenACS and Linux issues, so it might make sense to send Brazilian ]po[ users to this community here for local language support... I'll include a link somewhere in our website.

      Cheers!
      Frank
